The different microphone types and DSP technologies of Yamaha conference audio systems, for hybrid meetings in various rooms and applications.

Do your online meetings or workshops take place in a variety of open spaces or do you prefer to hold them in set conference rooms? Do you want to move freely during presentations and need the greatest possible flexibility, or do you prefer fixed infrastructure? With Yamaha’s flexible ADECIA audio solutions for conferencing, a range of microphone types and our own, specially-developed digital signal processors, we offer the optimal setup for best speech quality in every room and every application.

Everyone knows a situation where someone speaking is standing too far away and you have to concentrate hard to understand even every second word. Maybe the room is too reverberant and the participants are speaking too softly, too loudly or not clearly. There might be loud, distracting background noise or participants are moving around the room. Different meeting situations and spaces bring different challenges. The experts at Yamaha know how important voice quality is in meetings and have developed flexible microphone systems, with innovative integrated processing technology, with perfectly capture and optimise every voice.

Different microphone types and their applications.

Yamaha produces three different microphone types, which cover the needs of almost every conference space and situation:

The RM-CG ceiling microphone: For an agile workshop

If people speaking move freely around the room, Yamaha's RM-CG ceiling array microphone automatically picks up, focuses and follows up to four active voices with its microphone beams. Thanks to its simple and elegant design, it blends unobtrusively into every room. The built-in multi-beam tracking is combined with noise reduction and dereverberation, reducing the reverberation of the room and eliminating distracting noise as much as possible.

The RM-W wireless microphone system: For maximum flexibility

When the room layout and number of participants change frequently, Yamaha's RM-W wireless microphone system offers maximum freedom. For example, if the room is rearranged and the participants are each seated at their own table or standing at a lectern, each table and lectern can be assigned its own microphone. There are several wireless microphone options to choose from. For stress-free, clear conversations, the RM-W is equipped with high-speed echo cancellation and distracting background noises are filtered out.

The RM-TT wired table microphone: For fixed room structures

Yamaha's RM-TT table microphone is perfect for fixed room layouts. Using built-in audio processing technologies like Auto Voice Tracking, the connected RM-CR processor automatically selects the microphone closest to the voice for optimal pickup, even when the person speaking is moving around the room.

ADECIA audio processing technologies: For best speech intelligibility

The RM-CG, RM-W and RM-TT deliver the best sound quality through the use of adaptive echo, noise/reverberation cancellation and automatic gain control. Combined with Yamaha's dedicated Human Voice Activity Detection (HVAD), these voice processing technologies ensure a pleasant, stress-free online conferencing experience in any type of conference or meeting room. These technologies all have a different, equally important function in the ability of ADECIA systems to deliver the best possible sound quality:

Listen how it sounds!

Adaptive Echo Cancellation

While other echo cancellers measure the room and adjust levels once, Yamaha's Adaptive Echo Cancellation constantly checks the environment for changes to deliver an uninterrupted, echo-free audio stream.

Automatic Gain Control

This function allows everyone to hear or be heard at the ideal volume. It automatically adjusts the voice level to deliver a consistent, optimal volume level, regardless of whether some voices are louder or softer, and whether they are closer or further away from the microphone.

Noise Reduction

When constant noise - such as a projector fan, air conditioning or outside traffic - enters the room, Yamaha's Noise Reduction technology removes these components to clearly transmit the presenter's voice.

Multi Beam Tracking

Multi-beam Tracking technology is capable of tracking the simultaneous speech of multiple speakers. Since the beams detect and track the direction of the sound source simply by the speaker speaking, there is no need to adjust the position or range of sound collection in advance.

Dereverberation

In an acoustically imperfect environment, reverberation (multiple short echoes which ‘blur’ sounds) can make it difficult to hear speech clearly. Dereverberation suppresses any unwanted reverberation, ensuring speech is always distinct and understandable.

Extrabox: Improve the acoustics of the meeting room in simple steps

From an acoustic point of view, conference rooms have unique needs. For meetings to be as productive as possible, speech must be clearly intelligible throughout the entire room to everyone present. Although Yamaha’s audio for conferencing technologies ensure optimal speech intelligibility for all remote participants, an untreated meeting room with too much reverberation can make speech less clear to those within the room. This can negatively affect the atmosphere in the room, the productivity and efficiency of the meeting and, ultimately, the wellbeing of the participants.

Here are three things that will acoustically improve a meeting room:

- Acoustic pictures, for example with your company logo or company photos

- Carpets and curtains

- Corner absorbers for lower frequency noises (such as hum)
